We get celebrities calling to our main office in Staffordshire on a daily basis obviously. But this time the BBC Inside Out crew were there to provide evidence!
Pete Waterman, the infamous record producer, DJ, TV presenter and hit machine, believes that some University courses are a waste of money and won’t lead to a job. BBC Inside Out were following Professor Ellis Cashmore from Staffordshire University on his quest to convince Pete that a degree can be time and money well spent.
ST16’s offices were one of his first ports of call. Our Creative Director Simon Crofts is a proud alumni of the Staffordshire University Media Studies degree course and a University Governor. First off, Simon showed Pete and Ellis one of our recent viral videos, produced for the NHS, which sparked off a very fiery debate. As things heated up, Simon jumped in to asked Pete if he would like a tour of our offices before making up his mind.
Simon did his best to win over the media mogul, explaining how the placement he did at University helped him develop the business skills he needed to set up his own company and build its success over the last 10 years.
A big Pete Waterman fan, after holding back for the interview, Simon couldn’t resist getting Pete to sign his first Kylie album (circa 1990) before he left. Cue some very funny footage!
Pete holds some very strong opinions and whilst we may not have convinced him about the value of university.... we did get a photo of him drinking out of the offices’ favourite Homer Simpson mug...
